Yuliya Yurchenko is a senior lecturer in political economy at Greenwich University. Her most recent book is Ukraine and The Empire of Capital: From Marketisation to Armed Conflict (Pluto Press, 2018). This is an abridged version of an article published in the European Journal of Social Theory.
